The romantic story revolves between Marguerite Gautier and Armand Duval.
The fact is that Marguerite has a past, which, although accepted by the society, is rejected
by the false morality: she is a well-known courtesan. Lovers attempt to find happiness by
retiring in loneliness. They fail. The intervention of Armand's father brings their
relationship to an end, and only Marguerite's death clarifies everyone's role and reveals
the nature of those involved in the conflict.
